Welcome to the Knicks segment of Eddie’s Corner. Might be the only positive thing I write for a long time.

The Knicks have come up with another 50 loss season. Not that this was a surprise to anyone, but it brings up a question that has been the “elephant in the room” for a very long time.

Are the Knicks in a backslide over the last few years, or is this just a losing culture?

As an unbiased, sometimes ignorant fan, I believe this isn’t a culture problem, just a bad string of seasons. The Knicks have some of the right pieces in place to be competitive in the next few seasons, but it comes down to a few factors:

The Health of Porzingis

People like to compare Porzingis and Karl-Anthony Towns on the same level. They’re from the same draft class, both are bigs, so we see why they can be compared.

In terms of skill, the comparison is pretty laughable. Kristaps’ biggest concern right now is that he CANNOT stay on the court, KAT has never missed a game. Last year, Porzingis missed 16 games, not that many, but when you look at the list of injuries, it is a cause for concern.

The Knicks are in a unique position to really pursue some high-quality free agents over the summer. With Kristaps still under contract until the end of next year, they are in a spot to spend some money. Ideally, the Knicks can land JJ Redick, who is going to see his minutes deplete in Philadelphia.

JJ Redick’s skill set is exactly what the Knicks need. Just a guy who can hit threes with the best of them The Knicks are dead last in the NBA in three-pointers made. As much as I love watching Michael Beasley take turnaround jumpers from 14 feet out, it’s not the most efficient way to score.

What free agents will sign with the Knicks?

Beasley and Burke

The Knicks need to resign this guy. He is electric off the court and can be used as an immediate offense in isolation. He dominates any secondary unit that he goes against, and he has become a fan favorite in the garden. Scott Perry will be able to get him back on the roster for a cheap contract.

Trey Burke has been a revelation, especially of late. It doesn’t really make sense how he was in the G-league at the beginning of the season. Beasley and Burke will solidify the Knicks depth next season with their early 2000s, cornrow look.
